A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of the Chamorro Optimist Club San Diego Dinner Mixer Fundraiser on Sunday, October 22, 2017. We enjoyed the delicious food stations and wonderful service at the 94th Aeroquadron Restaurant in San Diego.
Our Master of Ceremonies, Robert Santos put polish on our evening program fitting for our honored guests that included the First Lady of Guam, Christine Calvo, Pale' Eric Forbes, Optimist District Governor, Lyn Woodhead and Chamorro community leaders, Josh Borja, of the Sons and Daughters of Guam Club, David Atalig of the CNMI San Diego Club and the Che'lu organization, and Joann Tabor Modic of Manhita Chamorro.
Chamorro Optimist Club president Greg Camacho honored member Donna Rodriguez as 2017 Optimist of the year as well as Dr. Judy Flores for her invaluable service to the club as Guam liason.
There was quite a shopping frenzy as attendees enjoyed bidding on several silent auction items from local services to art, sports memorabilia, golf outings and a staycation at the Holiday Inn Bayside.
Highlights of the evening included the announcement of a $20,000 donation to our program, the House of Chamorros, from Dave and Lucy Alcorn of the GFS Group, Guam! We also received a pledge of a $1000 donation from the Governor of Saipan, David Apatang, who was unable to attend due to last minute weather concerns for the island.
The evening concluded with a Chamorro dance solo by House of Chamorros Queen, Marleena Lute and a song by First Lady Christine Calvo accompanying the Island Mist Ukulele ensemble.
